Lucknow University has decided to offer a new range of courses on Indian culture and its ethos from the next academic session that begins in July this year.
There will be courses on cultural aspects of Jainism, Buddhism and Brahmanism. However, the most intriguing of the new courses is the ‘purohit’ course. The six-month long course will train prospective priests in ‘karmkand’ or ritual services, computers and English. Students will be taught a total of 30 hours for two papers.
An official at Lucknow University reportedly said, “There is a dearth of trained ‘purohits’ both in India and abroad.”
A candidate interested in enrolling themselves for this course will need to have passed Class 12. There’s no age bar for this course.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, one of the new courses will also be on Bal Sahitya Lekhan or Children’s Literature that will focus on Indian literature, art and psychology, so that children reading these books get a better sense of the Indian culture.
The University will also offer other skill development certificate courses in subjects like special effects, cinematography, photography and film editing.
These courses will be run by different boards under the Abhinav Gupta Sansthan. The University also plans to release these courses online.
